The Unique Properties Of Screw Conveyors And When To Use Them
Screw conveyors are a part of the family of systems designed to transport items from one place to another, but they are unique in the way they operate. Whereas flat and even inclined conveyor systems can move items sideways or downwards, a screw conveyor can even move items upwards if it is configured correctly to do so. Screw conveyors have been used in many industrial processes for a long time, and have stood the test of time as a workable and useful development in the conveyor industry.
So, why would anyone build and use a screw conveyor instead of a more simple installation? There are several possible reasons. One of the most important is that the screw conveyor can be used to move substances up an incline as well as down. This may not seem to be very important when you are thinking of solid items which could simply be carried, but most of the use for screw conveyors is for semi solid material.
A lot of the time these conveyors are used for disposing of waste material from an industrial process. If that process involved the use of an incline conveyor to take an item down to a lower level, there may well be a corresponding need to find a mechanism which will allow the waste created by the process to moved back up to the higher level. Using a screw conveyor for this purpose is usually economical, and if it allows for gravity to be used on the downward system, that will be even more so. The one problem with this type of arrangement is that as the angle of inclination increases, so the capacity of the screw conveyor correspondingly decreases.
Screw conveyors are relatively unglamorous, as they are so often used to remove waste material. In the food industry, for example, they are often used to remove the waste ingredients after the food product has been created. In factory farming situations, they can be used to carry the animal feed as well as any waste products created by the manufacturing process. The same technology can be used in factories where items are made from wood, as the loose chippings need to be transported for disposal.
A screw conveyor is very similar to an incline conveyor in the sense that it cannot really be designed for off the shelf use. Each individual installation has to be designed for the specific situation in which it will be used, and this inevitably increases the expense of having the conveyor installed. However, this type of conveyor is more flexible, so there is less likely to be a need for the building to be modified. As the installation will need to be carried out by professionals actually visiting your premises, you are likely to get a better deal through a local company. Carry out a local search for someone to design and install your screw conveyor.
